Randie O’Neil Delivers Rich Poetry in Her New Country Single “Queen (of the Barstool Two Step)”
Smooth and charming, Americana/Folk-Pop artist Randie O'Neil puts her whole self into her writing and performances, using honest and witty lyrics about heartache and strength, paired with catchy melodies. With her roots-inspired sound, she has independently released multiple albums over the years.
Her storytelling comes from a sincere place. Her work as an adolescent intervention specialist brings a real-world perspective to her lyrics. Drawing on her own life story of having to survive an abusive alcoholic environment as a child, she helps students navigate a complicated world. Through her songs, she conveys a message of understanding and courage to face problems that almost all of us experience at some point in our lives.
Her new single, “Queen (of the Barstool Two-Step)” is the first release from her upcoming album Full Moon. The song has a thick country laced americana sound reminiscent of Mumford and Sons meets Pat Bennatar. It simultaneously has a high energy and a melancholy one. It’s about the way covid affected the nightlife of artists like Randie. Going out to see live music was no longer an option and the loneliness crept in on many performers and audience members alike.
“‘Queen’ is actually a sad song about a lonely individual who just doesn't want to be alone,” shares Randie. “They get dressed up and try to look their best and hope they don't end up alone. They also know that it's not true love but just alone in a crowd. It's a covid song in that for lonely people, covid was even lonelier because there was no chance of connection.”
